How this shot came about.

Había querido recorrer todo el Western Arthurs Traverse y fue una decisión difícil dar marcha atrás y volver sobre mis pasos...

Una vez tomada la decisión, salí del corrie del lago Cygnus temprano en la mañana con el plan de avanzar hasta el monte Hesperus y luego acampar durante la noche cerca de la cima de Moraine A antes de emprender el descenso de regreso a Junction Creek. Sentí que era prudente dedicar un día completo al descenso para evitar otro campamento "intermedio" si resultaba tan difícil como el ascenso al comienzo del viaje, especialmente porque no me apetecía pasar otra noche buscando ¡agua potable!

Recorrí el camino hasta pasar el monte Hesperus y luego comencé a buscar un campamento adecuado para minimizar mi impacto. Finalmente encontré un sitio, pero fue durante la búsqueda que encontré esta muesca entre Hesperus (a la derecha) y el afloramiento rocoso a la izquierda.

El primer plano desciende abruptamente en esta imagen y las increíbles vistas del valle de Junction Creek aquí representadas captaron mi atención durante casi tres horas. Me sentí como si Jack de Jack y las habichuelas mágicas hubiera subido a las nubes solo para mirar hacia atrás y recordar de dónde venía y lo que había soportado para llegar hasta aquí.

La verdad es que estaba eufórico cuando me senté en una roca plana bajo el sol y observé las sombras de las nubes moviéndose en bandas tranquilas por el fondo del valle. Muy abajo podía ver la presa Scott's Peak a la izquierda y el bosque de apariencia aparentemente pacífica que me había llevado a lo largo del valle ese primer día hasta Junction Creek. Mirando de cerca, incluso pude ver partes del camino hacia Moraine A resaltadas por grava de cuarzo y por las que había pasado antes de afrontar esa desafiante subida.

Para mí, esta toma es un recuerdo de un momento de tranquilidad que me llevó a darme cuenta de que dar marcha atrás fue simplemente una decisión y no, como había sentido originalmente, un fracaso. Esta vista por sí sola fue suficiente para traerme de regreso y mientras estaba sentado allí decidí regresar en 2025.

La planificación en The Western Arthurs se trata mucho más de comprender las probables nubes y lluvias que barren regularmente las montañas. En circunstancias salvajes como ésta, donde no hay servicios de Internet disponibles, mi principal fuente de información se convierte en el tiempo satelital que puedo recibir en mi Garmin Montana 700i GPS.

En este caso, la planificación de la toma fue poco más que estar en el lugar correcto en el momento correcto.

Post Production

Flujo de trabajo básico

  • solía sala de luz para unir las 77 exposiciones HDR en un mosaico de 11 imágenes.

Ajuste de imagen

  • Esta imagen fue enmascarada en 4 regiones, cada una de las cuales recibió un tratamiento ligeramente diferente.
  • El primer plano es prácticamente un disparo, excepto por la eliminación de una pequeña roca brillante en la parte inferior derecha que llamaba la atención.
  • Se agudizó el terreno medio del fondo del valle y se hizo un ajuste de contraste.
  • A las colinas al otro lado del valle se les aplicó un ligero DeHaze.
  • El cielo se ajustó para contrastar.
  • Aunque la imagen es muy grande, el recorte se mantuvo al mínimo ya que sentí que los acantilados de la derecha enmarcaban la imagen y aumentaban la sensación de inmensidad.

How is my image shipped to me?

After printing each image is trimmed to include mounting margins for your framer.

It is then rolled in protective sheets and placed in an appropriately sized mailing carton.

We use 150mmx150mm (6"x6") mailing cartons to avoid excessive bending of the high quality paper we use for printing.

Depending on your selection the carton is sent via mail or courier to your nominated address

What paper is my image printed on?

We use very high quality acid-free papers from Hahnemuhle.


We usually print on Ultra Smooth Cotton Rag at 308 gsm.

How is my image authenticated?

Each print is personally named, numbered and signed by me.


Additionally I also emboss the margin of the print with our logo.


Finally each print comes with a certificate of authentication which includes an encrypted QR code containing a unique print identifier and the known provenance of the print.

Are the images on the website copyrighted?

All images on the Amuigh Faoin Speir website are copyright the author. A great deal of time and effort goes into the acquisition and production of each image and unauthorized use of any of the images is prohibited.


All images have been invisibly watermarked and their unauthorized use anywhere on the web is continuously monitored.


Should an unauthorized use of any image be discovered the user of that image is liable for post-use licensing fees as laid out in the Terms of Service, Section 13 - Unauthorized Usage of Images.

Why does the price of each image vary over time?

Each of the images comes in three sizes, Feature, Mural and Nook.

For each image each size has a restricted and predetermined run size.

We guarantee that this run size will never be exceeded, ever.

This means that there is a natural scarcity for each image/size combination and as prints are sold that scarcity increases with a corresponding increase in the price for the next print.

This approach provides an opportunity for early purchasers to acquire an appreciating asset the market value for which increases with each subsequent purchase of that image/size combination
